Hydrogen projects need faster approvals

Frankfurt, 2.10.2025 – The German government aims to accelerate the ramp-up of the hydrogen economy through legislation. Peter Müller-Baum, Managing Director of VDMA Power-to-X for Applications, comments:
- "German industry urgently needs reliable and fast approval procedures for electrolyzers and hydrogen infrastructure. The Hydrogen Acceleration Act can provide important momentum – provided it is implemented consistently and with practical relevance."
- "To achieve this, VDMA calls for clear and uniform approval standards for electrolyzer plants, as well as technology-neutral regulations that do not hinder innovation."
- "Moreover, companies need planning certainty to stimulate investment in hydrogen projects. They are ready to help shape the market ramp-up with their technologies."
Mechanical and plant engineering is a key player in the hydrogen value chain – from production to infrastructure to application.Through its platform Power-to-X for Applications (P2X4A), the VDMA is actively committed to building a competitive hydrogen economy. Most recently, it initiated a guideline for the approval of hydrogen plants to support practical implementation.
