GrindingHub cooperating with Schleiftagung grinding conference

Virtual conference with top-class program at end of January – GrindingHub hosting community get-together in May

Frankfurt am Main, 20 January 2022. – The ink has scarcely dried on the Memorandum of Understanding between the organizers of the Schleiftagung grinding conference and the VDW (German Machine Tool Builders' Association). Both partners are joining forces to offer mutual support to their respective grinding events. "Our collaboration is a great opportunity to support fruitful interaction between the very latest research in grinding technology and the international high-tech industry during the Schleiftagung grinding conference, to promote it at the trade fair, and thus to underline Germany's advantages as a business location," says Dr. Sebastian Barth, organizer of the Schleiftagung and senior engineer at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) at RWTH Aachen University. Dr. Wilfried Schäfer, Executive Director of the GrindingHub organizer adds: "GrindingHub, the new hub for grinding technology in Stuttgart, aims to bring all the major names in grinding together in one place. The ‘Schleiftagung’ constitutes a premium partner."

The WZL is hosting the Schleiftagung grinding conference for the first time on January 26 and 27. The long-standing event, which was based at Hanser Verlag for 18 years and took place in Fellbach near Stuttgart, will be organized from Aachen starting this year. It will be held digitally due to the pandemic, but will feature high-caliber speakers from universities and companies all over the country. The two-day program will focus on the topics of sustainability and the contribution which grinding technology can make to resource conservation. It will also feature the latest technical trends in grinding, such as process and function design, increased efficiency in high-speed grinding, and the use of digital grinding tools.

GrindingHub is supporting the Schleiftagung grinding conference as an official partner. In this role, it will provide the setting for the community get-together of the Schleiftagung participants in May. "Our networking event at the end of January will have to take place online, meaning that the GrindingHub will be the ideal platform for all relevant participants to catch up on their face-to-face networking," says Barth. All Schleiftagung participants are therefore being invited to attend the community get-together at GrindingHub. This will give university-based researchers an additional opportunity to present their work at the forum in the Grinding Solution Park. "The community get-together represents a further event at which representatives from the political, industrial and scientific communities can compare notes on sophisticated grinding technology, in which Germany is the world market leader," concludes Barth.

Participants can register for Schleiftagung 2022 until 25 January 2022 at https://schleiftagung.de/.

Background GrindingHub 2022 in Stuttgart

Almost 80 per cent were exported, with about half going to Europe. The largest sales markets are China, the USA and France. Germany, Japan and Switzerland head the list of top global producers.
