Accurate and rigid Witte sandwich plates are mainly used as base for fixtures. Meanwhile other applications such as a means of transportation between the measuring and assembly areas are increasing.

For easy movement of the sandwich plates hovercraft air bearing technology is often integrated. However, since this requires a perfect floor surface, the Witte company has now developed a sandwich plate mounted on roller bearings, which are easily navigated on all kinds of floors (E.g. tiles, assembly or shopfloor areas).

The plate is self-sufficient, independent of compressed air and power supply. The air cushions of the friction wheels and the steering roller units are operated by two electric batteries and two air tanks. Movement is possible up to 45 minutes, before reloading is required. Plates with dimensions of 250 x 2000 x 4200mm can be loaded with up to 4 tons.

In addition the plate has been equipped with a camera and display within easy reach of an operator. This simplifies moving the plate into a positioning system and the procedure can be monitored more easily, for example when large fixtures or parts are obstructing the view. Warning and safety components such as a flashing light, sirens and emergency stop button enhance the equipment.

Operators have unrestricted freedom of movement using the wireless radio remote control. This is also equipped with an emergency stop button, so that the plate can be stopped at any time.
