The PICOMAX 21-D and PICOMAX 21-M are handy, robust and very user-friendly jig boring and milling machines, with a wide range of applications. Due to the versatility and the possibility of selection of different sizes of coordinate tables, as well as a large range of tool holders and special accessories, these machines provide a complete and modern workplace for each workshop.

For enhanced operator friendliness and lot production, the FEHLMANN PICOMAX 21-M is equipped with a feed table (M version). The mounted motors allow for precise positioning of the table at rapid traverse or by means of the continuously adjustable feed system.

The integrated motorised table allows ultra-rapid and precise positioning not just manually, but also automatically, for bolt hole circles, dot patterns and rectangular pockets. Entries are made simply and comfortably via the digital readout’s touch screen display. Glass scales and ball screws guarantee for long-lasting high production quality.

The hardened and ground lead-screw spindles, the robust construction and the rigid column with non positive housing clamping as well as the precise vertical drilling head guideway provide for high stability plus high machining and repetition accuracy over the complete working range.

An integrated thread-cutting device is standard. The proven quick tool change system FEHLMANN SF32, the electronic infinitely adjustable speed control as well as the smooth and high-precision vertical drilling head guideway are time-saving features which make work easier.

The PICOMAX 75 impresses with high precision, best rigidity and optimum energy efficiency. A faster tool magazine with loading from the front during machining, a compact, space-saving design as well as FEHLMANN-typical, outstanding ergonomics are just a few features of this efficient production machine.

Application / Field of use
High-precision 5-axis milling while still comfortably fixing and machining plates and devices directly on the table: this robust built machine can be used universally and is particularly suitable for efficient precision parts manufacturing, such as for medical technology, aerospace, optical and electronics industry, mold and fixture construction – i.e. in all industries requiring highest precision, excellent surface finish and high cutting capacity.
The optional workpiece handling systems are extremely compact and can be configured differently depending on the application, allowing both large and small batches up to single pieces, to be produced in unmanned shifts. The machine is easily accessible from front, even with automatic workpiece loading.
The unobstructed chip flow is guaranteed by an optimized machine bed form and a standard bed flushing.


Machine design and construction for highest precision
The new stiffness-optimized machine structure in vertical-column design with integrated coordinate table and the large-dimensioned linear guideways as well as precision direct measuring glass scales with compressed air on all axes guarantee "jig boring machine quality". Fully digital drive technology for maximum dynamics and productivity.
The mounting surfaces of the machine’s structural parts are scraped and therefore guarantee best possible geometries.
The design is characterized by high rigidity, excellent access, minimum space requirements, thermal stability and comfortable, flexible user ergonomics.


5-axis machining without accessibility problems
Machine construction, Z-axis travel and geometry have been designed for working with FEHLMANN dividing and swiveling units. This combination ensures best access and precision in 5-axis machining.
The FEHLMANN dividing and swiveling unit ATS 200 has direct position measuring systems in the swiveling and dividing axes, enabling for example optimal 5-axis machining of cubic parts.
Due to the 5-axes FEHLMANN alignment cycles, the ATS can also be repositioned and aligned automatically at any time with high precision. The PICOMAX 75 was designed from the beginning as 5- and 3-axes machine, thus no restrictions on traverse paths are guaranteed.
The clamping surface was designed in a way that a tailstock could be readily set up and the ATS can be used as a pure 4-axis solution for long workpieces.


Modular expansion
If required, the PICOMAX 75 can anytime be upgraded with a workpiece automation or 4th/5th axis.

The FEHLMANN PICOMAX 95 is the largest member of the FEHLMANN machining center series. The latest version of the rigid machine stands out due to even more advantages: Fast, safe and comfortable operation thanks to the latest generation of Heidenhain controls , further improved tool management and the HSK-A63 high-speed spindle offering high speeds and powerful torque for all conceivable applications - whether using long large tools or extremely small tools. Moreover, the new FEHLMANN PICOMAX 95 also makes an excellent visual impression, continuing the attractive design language of the FEHLMANN machining centers.


The FEHLMANN PICOMAX 95 is the machine of choice where high performance combined with maximum precision are required. The generous clamping surface of 1,600 mm x 550 mm and long travels of 800 mm x 500 mm allow for three-dimensional 5-axis machining of even large work pieces, up to approx. 200 x 200 x 200 mm. The rigid construction with scraped geometries guarantees accurate dimensional stability and longer tool life. The spindle is available with speeds up to 14.000 rpm, 18.000 rpm or 24.000 rpm. Thanks to its high performance and equally high torque, it is also perfectly suited for hard-to-cut materials. Furthermore, the FEHLMANN PICOMAX 95 distinguishes itself through operation with extremely low-vibrations, which allows for an immaculate surface finish. The 24.000 rpm motor spindle, with oil-air lubrication and active spindle cooling, grants optimal thermal stability, as do the hitherto available universal motor spindles. In addition, this saves energy and, thus, money.

Efficient and easy to operate
The well-thought-out and mature concept of the FEHLMANN PICOMAX 95 makes it an coveted workplace: All operating sequences are comfortably controlled from the front. The clamping surface is easily accessible and perfectly visible at all times. The large table surface allows for multi-part clamping, saving the operator the time-consuming and tedious loading and unloading of work pieces. The optional automation is arranged at the side, enabling loading processes during machining. The table, work piece and tool changer are all easily accessible at all times.


Future-proof and upgradable
The FEHLMANN PICOMAX 95 has been designed for 5-axis machining of small cubic parts on a rotary swivel table from scratch. The 3-axis basic machine may be upgraded to 4-axis or 5-axis machining using the FEHLMANN ATS 200 at any time. For maximum workpiece accuracy, the machine offers direct measurement systems on all 5 axes as standard. In addition, the automatic part loader - from round pallets for 148 parts up to square pallets for 400 parts - as well as part grippers (articulated-arm robots) may be retrofitted whenever needed.

When talking about state-of-the-art 5-axis machining, the FEHLMANN VERSA 645 linear is the machine of choice. Whether 5-axis-machining with positioning or 5-axis simultaneous milling, the VERSA 645 linear masters any demanding and complex task with flying colours - accurately and reliably.

The VERSA 645 linear allows for machining workpieces highly dynamically in five axes and with maximum precision. Thanks to the intelligently designed drive concept, compromises between precision and dynamic machining are a thing of the past: linear drives permit high acceleration and dynamics without compromising maximum precision. The fact that only two axes are used for cutting, results in high rigidity and precision on the tool axis and, thus, in an immaculate surface finish. The tilting rotary table is integrated into the machine concept in a longitudinal direction, thereby guaranteeing a swiveling area unaffected by the linear axes (no kinetic coupling effect). It also disposes of direct drives with cooled torque motors and high-accuracy angular measurement systems, which grant maximum dynamic precision even during simultaneous multi-axis machining.

The VERSA 645 linear has been designed for maximum precision through and through. The cooled slide components, as well as the cooled machine structure, consistently prevent undesirable thermal growth. The X axis with the tilting rotary table is supported along the entire bed length for perfect stability. The stable swivel bridge with counter-bearing also contributes to the high rigidity of the VERSA 645 linear.

Can be automated without restrictions
With its well thought out and compact design, the VERSA 645 linear may be automated at any time. As the automatic loading door is located on the right side of the machine, an automation system can be easily connected. The machining area is freely accessible from the front for setup work and process control, independently of the machine configuration. Depending on the number of pallets and the variety of parts, the system may be controlled and monitored by a pallet management integrated in the control unit, or via the flexible FEHLMANN MCM (Milling Center Manager). Thus, the VERSA 645 linear may be adapted to a wide variety of automation concepts - even if you do not decide to retrofit your machine until later on.

Generous machining area
The VERSA 645 linear offers a very compact footprint and takes up only a small amount of space at the production site. Despite of this, workpieces up to a height of 250 mm and a weight of up to 150 kg may be machined on the rotary table, which has a diameter of 350 mm. High-performance in 5-axis machining

As a further addition to the time-tested range of machines from FEHLMANN, the VERSA 825 has been developed from the ground up for the 5-axis machining of larger work pieces. Among the outstanding features of the VERSA 825 are the extremely sturdy portal design, the integrated tilting rotary table along the X axis and the optimum operating ergonomics.


Field of application
The VERSA 825 is designed for high-precision 5-side or 5-axis machining in the production of tools and moulds, as well as in the production of precision parts for use in mechanical engineering, automotive, aerospace, defence and medical applications, etc.


Machine concept and design for maximum precision
The portal design of the machine, including the guide and drive systems, is ideal for handling the modern high-performance machining processes that users expect today.
Precision linear guides with direct travel measurement systems in all axes, broadly supported guide blocks and ball screws guarantee high axis feed rates and acceleration for practical, extremely precise HSC machining. The FEM-optimised structure of the machine with 3-point support is made of grey cast iron. The mounting surfaces of the machine’s structural components are shaved to create the best possible geometries. Other advantages of this choice of material are optimum damping properties and homogenous thermal conductivity, which in turn ensures that the operating temperature is quickly reached, combined with consistent 24-hour accuracy, highest geometrical precision and great rigidity.


5-axis machining
The VERSA 825 was developed right from the start as a 5-axis machine designed to meet the most demanding requirements. The tilting rotary table is integrated longitudinally into the machine concept, thus allowing tilt operation that is wholly unaffected by the linear axes (any kinetic coupling is excluded). The table has dynamic torque drives, mechanical clamps and direct travel measurement systems on both axes. Outstanding characteristics of the 5-axis simultaneous processing capability are the high dynamics and the very large tilt range of 230° (+/- 115°). The highly rigid tilting rotary table with 3 carriages per guide rail is able to take loads of up to 350 kg, and can handle parts with pallet sizes of up to 400x400mm resp. diameters up to 560 mm. This machining centre can be standard equipped with zero point clamping systems from various manufacturers (EROWA, 3R, Schunk, etc.).



Patent-registered operating concept and automation
Maximum attention has been paid to the operating ergonomics so as to ensure that the machine offers equally good accessibility whether loaded manually or automatically by robot. Thus, for example, the sliding doors to the work space, the CNC control console with Heidenhain TNC 640, and also the tool changer loading are in the immediate vicinity of the machine operator.
To ensure optimum cleaning and long-term maintenance of value, the work space is lined with stainless steel.

Engineering and precision
The heart of the VERSA 825 is the FEHLMANN HSC motor spindle. Whether with HSK-A63 and 14’000, 18’000 or 24’000 rpm or with HSK-E50 and 30’000 rpm – all spindle types grant low-vibration and precise concentricity for best surfaces and maximum tool life.
In the standard version, the tool changer with chain magazine offers room for 44 tools up to Ø 130mm max.
An extension magazine with up to 346 pockets is optionally available.
Chip removal is designed for both dry (minimal-volume lubrication) and wet machining operation (cooling lubricant / oil). Removal of the chips and coolant is via two spiral conveyor units installed to the left and right of the table.
Careful attention has been paid to creating a thermo-symmetric machine structure as well as other specific measures for additionally enhancing precision, including thermo-compensation and positional correction of the main spindle through the use of direct measuring systems. Thus, the heat-producing components are actively cooled, and the lining of the interior space (also with stainless steel) prevents direct transmission of the heat from the chips and cooling water to the machine structure.

VERSA 823, the 3-axis version
Instead of the integrated tilting rotary table, the 3-axis version has a large table clamping area of 1200 by 750 mm and large travel distances of 820 mm for X, 700 mm for Y, and 450 mm for Z.
This allows precision mechanical engineering components and dies weighing up to 1000 kg to be machined. Guide drillings of the highest precision of the kind required in tool making can be produced with drilling & milling cycles. Large 3D shapes can be milled with highest precision even out of hardened tool steels. Crane loading is done by simply opening the operator doors. A pallet changer can be easily factory fitted or retrofitted at a later date.

FEHLMANN rack magazine for VERSA 825 / VERSA 823
Number of tools depends on tool dimension, capacity 186, 218, 250 or 346 tools, scalable. The operator is able to inspect the tools from the outside at any time. The tools are positioned in a transfer station with double gripper, which loads the tool in or unloads it from the spindle. The transfer unit grants tool transportation to primary processing time. Tool Management as well as drive axes and sensor system are integrated into the Heidenhain control unit.
