    Dyna Myte 2400 z axis

I have this mill and am running it with Mach 3. I need to tune it so Mach 3 sends the correct number of pulses per inch of travel. I know that the x and y axis are a 10 to 1 gear ratio with a leadscrew that is 10 threads per inch with a single start thread. Before I open it to inspect the z axis I thought i'd ask to see if anyone knew what the z axis was. Thanks in advance for any info provided. I am not using the Dyna Myte control panel.

Why dont you just use the axis calibration tool? My 2400 needs about 101000 steps per unit, inch in my case (10x micro step value on my controller G540)

I thought axis calibration was for fine tuning after you had entered your calculated axis values. Will have to re-read manaul on the topic.

It is for axis calibration either way. The problem is you don't know how far it is going to travel the first time. Turn your velocity value down for the test as the velocity value is the rapid speed. Select a small travel value, say 1" press enter and cover the EStop just in case.

Have already played with motion and know it won't go crazy on any axis. Will try your suggestion later today. Thanks.

With the gear reduction on the 2400 and typical micro stepping of most controllers, sending enough pulses fast enough could be an issue. It doesn't matter on a machine that small. Fast rapids on a 4-5" travel will just cause problems anyway.

That is a BIG thanks for the calibration tip!!!! It was close but a few runs one each axis got things squared away. Now I seem to have a Z axis issue. I have a part that has three cut profiles in one program. The first cuts a slot 0.505 inches deep. That worked just fine. The next was a pocket that was supposed to be 0.141 deep. It ended up at 0.194 deep. Next was an outside contour that was supposed to be to be 0.505 deep. I stopped the mill when it had completed a depth of about 0.515 inches. The Z axis DRO on Mach 3 read 0.380 at that point. I reviewed the G code and don't see an issue there.

It is a great tool. Glad it helped.

I am curious as to the Z issue. Using the calibration tool for Z, did you retest the axis in both directions multiple times? Did its value ever seem inconsistent? What kind of backlash are you getting on the Z? Could it be mechanical?

Re: Dyna Myte 2400 z axis

I tested every axis multiple times until error was on the order of 0.0005 for multiple tests. However, I didn't do it in both directions. The X and Y don't show any issue, only the Z. I'll do the positive and negative runs on the z in the next day or two.
