lol, put those reading glasses on It shows Pass Christian Mississippi
I ended up here about 10yrs ago. I left Tonys and went to Paris tool and die
for about 3yrs then migrated to Bossier La, Long View Tx then to here.
Now the company I work for is packing up (due to the Hurricane) and moving to East Tn. and I will probably follow.

I thought you had moved back up North when you left Pioneer.
I havent seen any of those guys in about 15yrs, with the exception of Dewey Patterson, He came and worked for me in La for 6-8months, before he moved back to TN. He passed away several years ago.
Lol, I remember that 1" square pc of solid carbide you had in your tool box
and you discussing some of the profiling work you had done with duplicators.
I was as green as they came during those years.
I made off with the secratary when I left Pioneer and she is still following me around with 4 kids.

    Hi All

Well here are some more parts for the Edwards 5, I finished the rocker arms and some of the valves.
This has turned into a very time consuming build but it will be worth the effort.

    This is great stuff Ivy,

Does this engine run on glow or spark ignition?

    Regards

    Hi Jones

No it is a glow plug engine, Mr. Edwards made a spark version but there is no plans for it.

    Hi All

I have posted some photos at Photobucket of the progress on my engine,
I still need to make the cam and buy the gears and bearings.

I have been able to make all the parts without the aid of a rotory
table or indexer so far, but I have not figured out how to make the cam
    without one, "yet".
I think the hardest part to make is going to be the intake and exhaust
    pipes.

I made a tube bender and wasted a lot of brass tubing, I cant bend the
1/2" rad. without fracturing the tube.

Here is the link to photos http://lnk.in/Edwards5Radial

Did you anneal the brass before bending? I know with the 1/8" and stuff I use for my models to bend the tube you need to heat it to a cherry red then let cool. Makes it a lot easier then. If you don't it will fracture every time.

    Hey vulcom 1

I got my tube bending figured out, I heated tube red hot then quench in water, filled with lead, then oiled tube before bending in tube bender.
    Here's photo of part.

If you don't like the dull look you can always buff it then apply a clear coat. I use a laquer from a spray can. When you fire it up it will burn off but for display while building it sets it off with the contrast.

Hi Ivy, Very nice work. Have you kept track of your hours?
I recently downloaded the drawings and have been looking them over. It looks to me like the heads could be some of the most difficult parts. I do not have access to EDM or CNC equipment. I assumed the louvers would be cut with a slitting saw until I realized the valve guides are solid instead of inserts. How did you cut the louvers?
2nd question: Are all the purchase parts still available at the sources named on the prints?
    Thank you

    Hey putputman

No I havent kept a record of my time, I think I have about 200+ hours so far.

I dont have access to cnc or edm or rotory table, I cut the valve guide away and milled the fins then I drilled and tapped a 5/16 thread leaving an incomplete thread in the bottom,
then threaded 5/16 dia. brass and screwed into head using locktite, make the brass guide extra long so you have something to hold onto to tighten .

I then made a small boring bar out of a very small endmill to bore the O.D. of the guide.

I then turned it over and and did the valve seat area.

Boston Gear has all of the gears, the internal cam gear is about $80.00
    I belive all is available.

Great idea. The prints show the guides solid. I never would have thought of inserting just the guide portion. I was trying to figure out how to insert the entire guide & seat. Brass should be a better guide than aluminum also. The pictures are a great help.
Looking forward to seeing that baby run.
