EMISSA & PIBOMULTI SHOWCASES THE PRECIMILL 5X, A COMPACT AND HIGH-PERFORMANCE MACHINING CENTER

New Machining Center: PreciMill 5X
A key player in the field of high-precision machining, EMISSA SA proudly announces the launch of its brand-new machining center: the PreciMill 5X.
Designed to meet the growing demands of the industry in terms of precision, performance, and reliability, it embodies a concentration of advanced technologies perfectly suited to cutting-edge applications such as watchmaking, micromechanics, connectors, and medtech.
With over 80 years of expertise, EMISSA SA is part of PIBOMULTI group based in Le Locle, at the heart of the Swiss watchmaking and micromechanics cradle. The company has long specialized in the design and production of custom machining centers. Today, EMISSA SA is expanding its range by showcasing the PreciMill 5X, a compact, precise, and powerful standard machining center. Designed with the same level of rigor and innovation as its custom machines, it ensures optimal performance without compromising technical requirements.
A Compact and High-Performance Machining Center
Occupying less than 2.25 m² of floor space, the PreciMill 5X is one of the most compact machining centers in its category. It features advanced technologies to ensure maximum production efficiency:
· An optimized mechanical structure with high static mass for a rigid base ensuring high precision, and a ribbed cast iron frame to minimize moving masses.
· Dynamic axis system equipped with linear motors and direct-drive torque motors. The thermally regulated axes minimize expansion and are fitted with optical encoders, offering optimal precision and repeatability.
· Travel dimensions of 180 x 140 x 160 mm allow machining of parts up to 120 mm³.
· A 100-position tool magazine with a double-gripper tool changer, enabling tool-to-tool change times of 2.6 seconds and chip-to-chip times of 3.8 seconds.
· Tool management can optionally be enhanced with RFID technology.
· A high-frequency spindle with HSK-E25 tool holder, reaching up to 50,000 rpm. It features a rotary union for high-pressure coolant through the tool, optimizing drilling speed, machining quality, and tool life. It also includes a stop block for locking turning tools and a thermal expansion sensor for maximum precision.
· Simultaneous 4th and 5th axes (B and C), controlled by a Fanuc 31i-B5 CNC.
· The C-axis functions as a turning spindle, reaching up to 4,500 rpm, and includes a rotary union for part air-blow during and after machining.
Backed by its extensive know-how in machining system design and manufacturing, EMISSA SA also provides custom clamping systems tailored to the part’s geometry and machining operations—ranging from pallets and collets to vises and retractable clamping systems. The PreciMill 5X can be optionally equipped with a robotic loading and unloading cell to ensure long periods of autonomous operation, thereby reducing production costs.
Another key strength of the PreciMill 5X is its excellent accessibility to the machining area, making operators’ and technicians’ tasks more comfortable and efficient. Maintenance is also simplified and reduced thanks to high-end components and a minimized number of wear parts. For example, it does not use ball screws, which can require demanding upkeep to maintain performance levels.
Innovation for Tomorrow’s Machining
The PreciMill 5X stands out for its forward-looking approach to machining processes. It is pre-equipped for supercritical CO₂ machining—a new cooling and lubrication method offering multiple benefits in terms of energy efficiency, tool life, and machining quality.
The PreciMill 5X will be showcase at the EMO trade show, taking place from Septembre 22 to 26, 2025, in Hannover, hall 4, booth E46. EMISSA SA’s experts will be on hand to present the machining center and discuss the solutions it offers in relation to your specific needs.
