We attached one of these to the bar joists above the back right corner of the machine and poked a hole in the sheet metal so the hook could hang down in the machine. We used a laser to get the hoist...
Buy the probe option, you won't regret it. Seriously.
Does anyone have any experience running compressed air instead of coolant in a Haas VF with the 300 psi CTS option? It seems like it would be easy enough to rig up, but I wondered if the seals in...
I took a look at my file and do not see any notes...can't recall if we had to change a parameter or not...I don't think so. Our dealer told us about M250 and would have walked us through the param...
Ted, you are correct. You activate Maintenance Mode by executing M250 from MDI. Hitting Reset takes you out of Maintenance Mode. It's not a magic bullet that will make your machine operate as if...
I think that what you are proposing is only possible with a wired probe.
We started to do the same thing on a wireless probe machine and realized that anything but the factory orientation points...
I always orient the model in Solidworks before I import to get the desired plane orientation and origin location. My Gibbs reseller walked me through how to do it in GibbsCam once and it just seemed...
double a-ron,
Yes, we tested Gibbscam extensively before we bought it in 2001, which was 3 or 4 years before we got our first seat of Solidworks. It's just dissapointing to look back and see how...
mogwash,
I used to do what you are trying to do regularly before I bought the solids import option for Gibbs. Gibbs can import a 2D dxf or dwg into a workgroup where it can be used to define a...
I use Solidworks 2010 and GibbsCam 2010 everyday.
An an engineer, Solidworks is essential to me for design and communication - I could not live without it. I do not have a problem with Gibbscam...
Glad to help. I know all too well the frustration of fighting with Gibbs.
I'm no Gibbs Geometry expert, but the fact that that sketch segment is red even though it is not selected bugged me.
I right clicked it and selected Change Feature from "AIR" to "WALL" and it...
From our VF5-50, delivered in November.
We used 5/8 x 1 cold drawn flat stock on our VF5.
It fits the slot width perfectly and comes up just to the bottom of the chamfer on the slot, leaving no crevices for chips.
Most of the tooling companies offer free software to generate code for thier threadmills.
We use Vardex:

That rocks. Thanks for sharing it Geof.
Geof,
Very cool. Care to share your code?

Ain't it nice when the solution gets the job done faster?
We just finished up a job threading a couple hundred bolts with an M48 x 4 in 4140 QT, 24" away from the chuck.

If it was many years ago, it was probably white lead. Works wonders on stainless tapping jobs, but obviously not a good plan from a heath & regulatory standpoint.

I would call Peter Smid's 'CNC Programming Handbook' the Bible.

> Anyone know if the 16M control can do trig?
It can if it has the macro option installed.
Go to MDI, type in #101 = 1, hit cycle start.
If no error message, you have macro option installed.
According to Smid, most Fanuc controls support M23/M24. See attached.
Smid's book "CNC Programming Handbook" belongs on your bookshelf (or nightstand) if you are at all serious about programming...
I think jorgehrr means Peter Smid. His books are excellent

Nice! Thanks for sharing this. Very powerful.
We have had our VF5/50 for about 14 months now and are still in love with it. Here is what we got for options:

Hey Dave,
I predict that you are going to love the control. We have had our first Haas (a VF5-50)for about a year now and it has been a great machine. Hopefully you ordered the probing option.

Wish I could remember where I got this, but I can't.
