Have you looked into AutoDesk Fusion360? It's free for hobbyists and does complete CAD/CAM.
Just a suggestion.
Perhaps some contact cleaner would be a good idea.
Well, it's been a while, but here is my new control box that I've been working on for a couple of months. It's a 16x20x10 Hoffman box I scored on Craigslist for $50
120V Power comes in the left...
If you go here

to centroid's website and search on "vmc" you will find several instances of people converting...
I have these same motors and drivers and am working on an upgrade from my current open-loop steppers. I have been reading and debating the same question: 36V or 48V? So this thread is very timely...
Those are NEMA 17 motors.
FYI
Ralph,
Wow, your post is full of information and obviously took you a long time to write.
Thanks very much!
Gary
Roger,
Thank you!
Gary
Jim,
Thanks for the quick reply.
Your advice helps me make a better start.
Gary
Hey Guys,
I realize this thread has been on vacation for a month, but I have a couple of related questions.
I've been running desktop CNC's for 5 years or so and have always tried to keep my wiring...
PinkPanda,
I think you are getting good advice here, but I'd like to make a couple of observations:
Centroid makes more controllers than just the Acorn. They have been in the professional CNC...
RLWoodie,
I attended Cronulla High School on the south end of Sydney from 1967 through 1970, so old farts can learn this stuff too.
Others, it is often left out of the conversation that the Acorn...
I am looking to replace the router on my 2-axis CNC (fixed Z) with a spindle for noise and runout issues. It will be used to cut hardwood, not any metal. I can find this combination of 400W...
If you should decide to go with the UCCNC and a UC300ETH-UB1 I have a brand new one I can't use with UCCNC license.
Gerry,
Thanks for the quick reply. I've attached a picture of my UB-1. Are you saying that the port marked LPT4 maps to Port2 and LPT5 maps to Port3?
If so, where is that documented so I can read...
After the recent problems with Mach3 and Windows updates, I am moving away from Mach3.
One of my new machines will be a Gecko G540 / UC300ETH-UB1 / UCCNC setup.
After some initial problems getting...
Gerry,
Yeah, I tried rolling back to a couple of different dates and neither would boot up correctly after that.
Oh well, I DO appreciate your input.
Gary
I realize this thread is about the Windows 10 patch and I've applied that to one of my machines running Windows 10 and it worked (thanks to CNCRouterParts and Artisoft)
However, I also have a...

PERFECT!!! My spindle now runs as expected - turning the speed control knob clockwise all the way gives me 24,000 rpm and a minumum of 7,200 rpm.
You have been very helpful not only to...
MacTec54,
Thanks for responding.
Jumper J1 is set correctly on the rightmost 2 pins.
Yes, this is a 110V spindle - I bought the spindle then started reading this forum - sort of got things...
I have a slightly different problem that I have not seen addressed in this thread.
I have the 110V/2.2KW Huanyang VFD and a 110V 24000 rpm spindle.
I have set all the parameters to MacTec54's...
I'm sorry that nobody ever answered your question.
Yes you need a resistor or you can burn up your motor(s).
The resistor goes across pins 1 & 5 - those are the 2 on the ends of the long side of a...

If by "look" you mean visually look, the pictures show everything I can see. The sensor is built into the table and I'm leery of pulling up on the sensors themselves for fear of impeding the...
Al,
The wires are black, light blue, dark blue, and red as you can see in the pictures.
There seems to be a sensor at each end of the slide.
I did search the website of the manufacturer, but...
Hey Guys,
Now I'll admit that I haven't read all 36 pages of this thread, so if my question has come up before, please excuse my laziness and point me to the appropriate post.
I bought a linear...
Mariss,
Thanks for the update.
I, at least, will be anxiously awaiting the new models.
Thanks!!
Gary
I just wanted to get back and give an update on my problem. I finally got back to the optical home switch this past weekend. I followed Al's instructions - desoldered the 220ohm and replaced it...
I've got plenty of 12V DC sources - I'm only running 1 hard drive in my controller PC, so all those spare HD connectors carry 12V and 5V.
Thanks for the input all!
Gary
Thank you Sir!!!
