Without the increased use of green hydrogen produced from renewable energy, it will not be possible to reduce global CO2 emissions to the level required for the climate protection we need.
The advantages of hydrogen are obvious. Power-to-X technologies, which convert electricity into gas or liquid fuels, enable the large-scale use of renewable energies in the areas of heat, mobility and industry. Innovative technologies based on hydrogen offer enormous potential to defossilize industrial sectors. Within VDMA, you find are all technologies and research networks needed to further advance hydrogen and the hydrogen economy, from energy generation through process and production technology to application.

Cautious optimism for hydrogen ramp-up
Almost 70% of market players expect the widespread use of climate-neutral hydrogen in the energy sector, but are more cautious about the development of the hydrogen market in Germany than in the previous year. The H2 market index fell from 44 to 41 points. This is shown by the H2 Market Index, which has now been presented.
The survey was carried out by the Institute of Energy Economics at the University of Cologne (EWI) on behalf of eight industry associations. The aim of the H2 Market Index is...

New position paper: Internal combustion engines are part of the solution
To date, the EU has planned that, from 2035, only battery and fuel cell electric cars can be registered. Playing off different technologies against each other and focusing on just a few drive technologies is not enough: a technology-neutral approach is needed to achieve the climate targets and a successful, socially acceptable and economically viable transformation.
The de facto ban on combustion engines, which must be a versatile and versatile component of a sustainable energy...

VDMA welcomes the EU Commission's proposal
The European Commission’s proposed 2040 climate target has been welcomed by the VDMA. Thilo Brodtmann praised the EU’s continued ambition and emphasized the key role of mechanical engineering in global climate protection. He supports the idea of allowing emission reductions in non-EU countries to count toward EU goals, as this could accelerate the global deployment of climate technologies.
To make this work, clear regulations and sufficient investment are essential. Brodtmann urges...
