Without the increased use of green hydrogen produced from renewable energy, it will not be possible to reduce global CO2 emissions to the level required for the climate protection we need.
The advantages of hydrogen are obvious. Power-to-X technologies, which convert electricity into gas or liquid fuels, enable the large-scale use of renewable energies in the areas of heat, mobility and industry. Innovative technologies based on hydrogen offer enormous potential to defossilize industrial sectors. Within VDMA, you find are all technologies and research networks needed to further advance hydrogen and the hydrogen economy, from energy generation through process and production technology to application.

No fuel shortage in sight
Prices are high at filling stations, consumers are wondering how expensive petrol and diesel could still become and whether the situation could even arise in which fuel really becomes scarce.Basically, it can be stated: The situation is currently changing at very short notice and further developments are difficult to predict. In addition, the oil and fuel market is less transparent than the natural gas market.Europe’s oil supply is broadly diversified: in 2025 only about 6% of Germany&rsqu...

Hydrogen engine: don't risk technological leadership
In the EU fleet regulation for heavy commercial vehicles, the hydrogen engine is considered a zero-emission technology, on a par with battery drives and fuel cells. It is robust, cost-effective, can be integrated efficiently and is practical for many applications, particularly in road freight transport.Despite these advantages, it currently has a decisive competitive disadvantage: under German energy tax law, it is treated less favorably than the fuel cell: While there is no energy tax for fuel...
