Without the increased use of green hydrogen produced from renewable energy, it will not be possible to reduce global CO2 emissions to the level required for the climate protection we need.
The advantages of hydrogen are obvious. Power-to-X technologies, which convert electricity into gas or liquid fuels, enable the large-scale use of renewable energies in the areas of heat, mobility and industry. Innovative technologies based on hydrogen offer enormous potential to defossilize industrial sectors. Within VDMA, you find are all technologies and research networks needed to further advance hydrogen and the hydrogen economy, from energy generation through process and production technology to application.

Associations Call for Swift Relief for Hydrogen Projects
RFNBOs (Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin) are a cornerstone of Europe’s hydrogen strategy. Yet their market ramp-up is increasingly at risk. Geopolitical tensions, volatile energy prices, regulatory uncertainty, and growing international competition are slowing investments and delaying projects. As a result, Europe risks losing industrial capacity, technological expertise, and its leading position in hydrogen value chains.
In response, eight industry associations have jointly...

A European Hydrogen Alliance – For a Sustainable Europe
Hydrogen is the key to effective climate protection, industrial value creation, and greater resilience. Current geopolitical tensions highlight just how important this is: Hydrogen paves the way to climate neutrality, offers economic opportunities, and strengthens security of supply. It reduces dependence on imports, thereby making the energy system more resilient.
Yet the ramp-up is progressing only slowly. While numerous projects across Europe demonstrate that investment is fundamentally poss...

MEPC 84: Advancing climate protection in maritime transport
The International Maritime Organization is continuing to work on its plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The 84th session of the MEPC further advanced this process. Important foundations were laid for fuel standards, life cycle emissions and implementation guidelines, among other things. However, the member states were unable to reach an agreement on central elements of the IMO net-zero framework, in particular on economic measures and the proposed net-zero fund.
Positions remain divided:...

No fuel shortage in sight
Prices are high at filling stations, consumers are wondering how expensive petrol and diesel could still become and whether the situation could even arise in which fuel really becomes scarce.Basically, it can be stated: The situation is currently changing at very short notice and further developments are difficult to predict. In addition, the oil and fuel market is less transparent than the natural gas market.Europe’s oil supply is broadly diversified: in 2025 only about 6% of Germany&rsqu...
