During the four-day event at the company site in Reichenbach, Germany, the experts of INDEX and TRAUB presented their high-level expertise in machinery and control technology, as well as efficient solutions in turning and milling. Dr. Dirk Prust, spokesman of the Executive Board of INDEX-Werke: “The focus of this year's Open House – besides presenting many new products and technology solutions – was especially on our close contact to our customers and their needs.”

On the product side, the premieres of the new sliding headstock automatic lathe TRAUB TNL20 and the multi-spindle automatic lathe INDEX MS40C-8 were undoubtedly the major attractions.

“The new sliding headstock lathe TNL20 sets new accents for single-spindle machines in terms of precision and productivity. We have combined this machine with a specially designed and built-in robot cell to support customers better in their processes,” continues Dr. Prust. In addition to the optional automation solution with a robot, the TRAUB TNL20 is available in 3 configurations and allows machining with up to 4 tools at the same time. The hydraulic-free machine concept and the vibration-damping gray cast iron bed provide for high thermal stability. A new feature on the TRAUB machines is also the standard integration of Xpanel - i4.0ready in all series. It facilitates the control of the machine on a 19” multi-touchscreen and allows for easy integration into the operational organization of the customer.

Among multi-spindle machines, the new INDEX MS40-C8 excels by its versatility. With eight spindles, simple and complex bar and chuck parts can be machined in the shortest cycle times. Up to two simultaneously working synchronized spindles allow sophisticated rear-end machining. The MS40C-8 can be used also as a double four-spindle machine to cut cycle times even by half. The machine is optionally available with the newly developed bar loading magazine INDEX MBL40-8.

Visitors also experienced exciting new products and technologies around the machines in the partner exhibition. Here, 14 companies from the fields of clamping technology, automation, machining tools, as well as control and measuring technology presented the latest technology trends.

More than 20 machines live in operation in such focal areas as aerospace, gearing technology, turn-milling technology, as well as the INDEX TRAUB tool holders were further program points. Refitting was in particular demand of customers. This new business unit focuses on the reconditioning and trade of used INDEX and TRAUB machines.

A particular highlight for the visitors of the Open House was surely the evening event on March 29 with Christoph Sonntag. The Swabian cabaret artist entertained the visitors on the show stage in the elegantly decorated area of the restaurant with his slightly different comedic motivational speech, leading into the finale of the day.
