Young people playfully learn what Industry 4.0 is

MPDV holds for the first time a competition for students called “Smart Factory@School” on June 5, 2019.  The objective of the event is to introduce young people between the ages of 16 and 19 to Industry 4.0 and to show them the importance of digitization in manufacturing.

"Industry 4.0 has now become an integral part of the curriculum at vocational colleges. With this competition, we want to make a contribution to knowledge transfer and pass on our expertise," says Nathalie Kletti, member of the MPDV management board.

The main component of the competition is the board game designed by MPDV itself and dealing with all facets of production. After an introduction to the processes of a production, the participants play the game in the first step without the elements of a classic Manufacturing Execution System (MES). In a second round, they will use MES components.  Young people learn about the advantages of an MES during the game.  At the end, they summarize the results and present them to a jury.  As an aid, they receive a workbook with explanations on a value stream, a short guide on the subject of MES and a glossary with the most important key words.

Winners will receive an educational package

"It is important to us to convey essential information about Industry 4.0 to the participants in a clear and concise way. We want to give them the tools they need for their future careers," says Laura Kirstätter, Research Coordinator at MPDV and responsible for the student competition.

The competition is made up of three parts.  The first round takes place on June 5, 2019 at the vocational college in Mosbach. The Central Vocational College Buchen starts on July 11, 2019.  The final takes place on July 17, 2019.  The winners receive an educational package
