Under the motto “On the Way to Industrie 4.0 – Digitalization in Machine Tool Manufacturing” we will be showcasing our products and solutions for the ongoing digitalization in the machine tool world at this year’s EMO, the world’s leading machine tool exhibition, taking place between October 5 and October 10 in Milan.

Industrial companies are facing profound changes in the manufacturing world. Digitalization is opening up new possibilities for making products and solutions smarter and thus more efficient. Siemens recognized this potential early on and developed tailored solutions. Digitalization is the key to boosting productivity, efficiency and flexibility. The increasing integration of product development and production processes through innovative software systems and efficient hardware demonstrates a fusion of virtual and real-life production worlds and is an important step on the way toward a new industrial era.

On the way to Industrie 4.0

We recognized this potential early on and now offer tailored solutions for all stages of the integration of automation technology throughout the entire value chain. Siemens has been focusing on simulation, virtual machines and integration of factory technology for years now, particularly in the context of CNC production with Sinumerik. The aim is to continue promoting this integration and thus pave the way for Industrie 4.0 in the machine tool industry. This is why our EMO booth is centered entirely on digitalization.

smart operation – digitalization for the jobshop

We will also be demonstrating how jobshop-oriented companies can take their first steps toward digitalization with the help of smart operation – and to do so without significant IT know-how or major investments. Touch technologies offer new options for operating machines. Using a smartphone, tablet or PC, the machine operator can keep track of the operating state, component supplyetc., from any location. The next order can be programmed and simulated 1:1 offline at an external workstation. Data transfer and display also becomes much simpler because SINUMERIK can easily access network drives.

New manufacturing opportunities

Visitors to our booth will also get a glimpse into the future of manufacturing. Additive manufacturing (AM) enables individual parts to be manufactured quickly and cost efficiently in large quantities. For companies this opens up completely new opportunities for customized mass production.

We already have in-house solutions for the entire additive manufacturing lifecycle:

-       NX product design,

-       Material and process development with Siemens Corporate Technology,

-       SINUMERIK as an automation solution for AM machine tools,

-       Use of AM machines at Siemens production sites.

Complete machining made simple

A key element of machine tool applications is an optimized cutting technology. At EMO we will present solutions that lead to optimal workpieces that can be produced within a very short time and are easy to operate. Whether turning, milling, grinding, drilling, or multitasking, it makes no difference. We have already made operation and programming significantly simpler in the increasingly important area of multitasking. The new software Version 4.7 for SINUMERIK Operate standardizes the look and feel of machining across a range of technologies. This makes it easier for machine operators to switch between turning and milling machines and provides direct, intuitive access to complex complete machining processes.

At our EMO booth in Hall 3, stand E06/F03, you can experience the possibilities with digitalization and see for yourself our innovations and solutions for shopfloor manufacturing with SINUMERIK. Or follow all the action from our booth on Twitter, on our blog or our CNC4you app.
