    Sieg X3 Y slop

I noticed while disassembling my new X3 that with the gib extremely loose the Y bed wobbles back and forth as it goes through it's travel. I replaced the lead screw and it doesn't seem to have helped anything. It looks like the bearing head is not parallel to the travel but I have no way to check it. I now have a new bearing head on the way but if that ends up not being it does anyone have other suggestions?

Also I seem to be having trouble removing the Y bearing head, the X bearing head came of easily however.

Thanks for the link. Yup, that's the prep guide I was following. Step 36 is where I am having problems. The bracket is not "tapping" off. Frankly it's not coming off with prejudice. Which might be why the cross slide is now wobbling. I think there are locating pins along with the bracket assembly screws, like there are on the bracket in step 26, but they seem to be "frozen" into the cross slide.

The pins are tapered. One side is larger than the other. You have to drive it out from the "small" side. Make sure you are using a pin punch, NOT anything pointy.

Can you drive it out from the cross slide? I can't remove the bracket from the cross slide at all. Sorry the machine is not in front of me.

There may be some roughness on the shaft where the key was. Maybe filing it smooth would help. If you pull the retainer from the end of the shaft, the whole shaft will unscrew from the saddle.

If necessary, you could remove the two screws from under the base, slide the saddle off, remove the retaining ring from end of shaft, and then unscrew the shaft from the saddle mount. Then when it is loose, it might be easier to knock the bearing block from the shaft.

I'll try it. I've totally disassembled it (save for removing the bearing block from the slide).

Maybe I'll take pictures tonight. Getting the hand wheel and the lead screw off wasn't too difficult after I got a good pair of circlip pliers.
