ive run into a limitation with my 2.2kw spindle. Yesterday i was milling some aluminum mounts for my vise which needed 30mm deep 8mm diameter holes for the bolts. At 6k rpm the surface speed is just way too high. i got through it eventually by starting small and going through 4 drill sizes so the larger drills didnt need to remove much material but it still wasnt happy at all drilling 8mm at 6k. If the hole wasnt so deep i might just drill once with something smaller and then helical down with an endmill, but its just too far. Even if i had a long enough endmill, i dont think the chips would find their way down the smaller hole. Any of you guys with these 6k rpm minimum spindles have a good strategy for drilling large deep holes in aluminum?
