    general cnc turning question

Can't remember where I heard this but on a slant bed cnc lathe is it incorrect to use a right hand tool and turn toward the tailstock? Incorrect, in that it could damage the machine. I maybe conflating this with flipping the tool in the tool holder so cutting would lift up on the ways rather than push down. Thoughts?

Absolutely no problem using right handed tools, that's exactly what they are for. Flipping upside down I've never tried as my holders won't allow the tool to get on center line if upside down. I imagine on a small or worn machine it could create issues if it's even possible, but I don't see how it would be. I'd have to custom make a holder 1" off center just to try it.
