    Hardinge CHNC Renishaw Tool Arm

Hello, I am wanting to mount a Renishaw HPMA tool arm in a CHNCII lathe. Just curious if anyone has such a beast with a permanent tool arm mounted in it? If so I would love to see a couple pictures.

There aren’t many mounting points available, a bolt in the bed for mounting the part catcher, 4 bolts that hold the cut off slide, a single 3/4” bolt holt that is for mounting a switch panel on a rod above the head stock, and two head stock bolts that I would rather not mess with.

I am open to ideas. Thanks Gary

Well I never saw any other CHNC lathes with a tool arm mounted, so I thought I would share what I came up with. It is plenty solid made from 1/2” & 3/4” aluminum. Now I just have to finish the rest of the setup.

I just got the arm all working but still need to add the probe cover and I still need to upgrade my CNC12 to get past the probing bug they had. Then I have to figure out how to put into practice accounting for the probe location. I think I understand, but haven’t tried it. Gary

Yeah I am only on 5.08 and there was a bug they fixed around 5.20 where auto measure wouldn’t give accurate measurements when using tools that needed to be measured on the back side of the probe. If I am going to have a probe that is mounted all the time I want it to work right. I have just been nervous about doing the upgrade, I didn’t really want it to be like I was starting over.

I believe this is the thread.
