Stratasys FDM: material loading into head

    Hello,

I have a Stratasys FDM and today I was loading material after running parts. The material would not come through the nozzle to purge. After letting the material feed motor run for a few minutes, I realized material was coming out of the side of the head. I removed what I think is all the material without disassembling anything. I can't get material to load now. Does anyone know how easy it is to fix whats causing this problem, I wanted to get a second opinion before I open the head with no information.

    Thank you,
    Nick

I can't speak to your printer, but I've had a similar experience multiple times.

When there's a blockage at the nozzle, the extruder - not knowing there's a blockage - will still push plastic toward the nozzle. Eventually, the pressure builds up and something breaks.

In my case, material was pushed out the side of the hotend. The fact that the plastic found its way out via a method it was not - fundamentally means there's less resistance there than the nozzle. It also probably means some seal was broken in the process.

In my opinion, you're going to have to take it apart - to unblock the nozzle - and repair whatever seal was compromised when your print material pushed its way out the side of the head. Hopefully nothing is unrepairable.

    Luck!

Thanks Jerbro, I will give it a shot.

If anyone has an assembly manual, please let me know.
