Smile Newbie: Laser cutting problem: acrylic

    Hi,

I am newbie on laser cutting engraving machine..
I just bought a non-matel laser machine from Gweike laser China and just received yesterday.

    Model LC1390 ( LC1390 laser cutting machine-Laser engraving machine|Laser cutting machine|CNC router-G.Weike Laser )
    RACI W4 CO2 Tube (120W)
    software lasercut Leetro

I try to cut a rectangular acrylic 5mm thickness. I set 90% power and speed 20.. I follow a suggestion on power and speed post by Gweike's Staff in this forum ( http://www.cnczone.com/forums/1099217-post3.html )

I have use autofocus setting and use focus ruler provided by Gweike for double check...

The result.. 2 side of the acrylic is quite oblique.. the side on x-axis

What is the problem & How can I solve this problem?

I guess the 3rd reflection mirror is not 45 degree? or the focus lens not align? If yes how can I adjust

    Someone please help me..

It looks like you need to tam you head so it is perpendicular to your table.

I'm not an expert, but I have read that you need to reduce the PPI to avoid melting the acrylic.

    Hi thanks for reply..

So its mean, there is no problem on focus lens (63.5mm) I use..

All I have to do is check the laser head is perpendicular to the table or not.

About the PPI (pixel per inch), where can I change the PPI in LaserCut 5.3?

If your head is dead perpendicular to the table , then your beam alignment is probably a little off , you need to do a beam alignment so that the beam hits the focussing lens dead centre.

Please check the belt. Make sure x and y axis' belts are in same tighten. When one side belt loose, also can cause this problem.

PPI is Pulses Per Inch and is a product of PRF power supplies, on the PWM supplies Chinese machines use it's not possible to change the number of pulses, only the length of them in a given pulse width.

    PRF = Pulse Repetition Frequency

    PWM = Pulse Width Modulation.

PRF supplies are usually found in RF lasers not CO2 glass tube types.

    Hi,

I have calibrate the mirror and focus lens 63.5mm (RACI W4 tube)

here is the picture of acrylic Cut and also I shot with 3 laser beam.. 2 with low power and 1 with high power (I just press the laser button on keypad)

As you can see the high power shot is like cone? Why?

Because the laser beam is not like this

    Thanks Rodney Gold,

Same as I thought, but how I can solve this problem?

I have a question about engineering drawing..

Currently the machine come with lasercut5.3

I want to cut and engrave acrylic for engineering product..

lasercut software dont have measurement in mm, i have to use visio and AutoCAD 2012

    The problem is:
    1) I write some TEXT, draw box, hole and number in Autocad and convert to R12/LT2 DXF (if I save to other dxf format, the size of the drawing will be bigger in the LaseCut5.3).. Next I open in LaserCut5.3, but it only show Box and line.. the hole is gone and the text (Arial font) is in poly line (but the text font is suck)

    other method

I open in DXF in visio>right click and select "CAD drawing object">convert>OK
Then I save in DXF and open in LaserCut5.3.
Result: all component in drawing exist. but when I zoom at hole, its not so smooth (I will try to cut hole and compare with hole made in Lasercut5.3)

Is there any CAD software that suitable to Lasercut5.3? Or there is other method?

Like LG said, beam looks good

    Have a read of this

Text in autocad is an external reference to a font file, it is saved as an object not as lines so will appear different if opened with different software.

To generate a hole in lasercut you need to select hole from the dropdown menu.

You also need to install the font you use into laser cut or it will default to whatever lasercut is set to as its default font.

Visio is a crap drawing package, great for cards or pictures but not for cad work sadly.

    best wishes

    Dave

Try saving your file in a plt format rather than dxf and see how it imports into LaserCut. Plt files will have fewer unjoined lines and will cut or engrave as cleanly as a dxf file.

LaserCut does use mm as the measurement scale. You can check the exact size (or change the size) in LaserCut in Draw/Size.

When saving files from AutoCad to import into LaserCut, it is usually best to save in the old 2000 format if available or the 2004 format.

You can't: this is physical the way a lens works.. You can use a longer focal lens. this makes the coneshape a bit more cylindrical but still you will have some cone. Also: a beam starts to evaporate the acrylic from the top and burns its way all through the bottom. The top is exposed longer to the beam so a bit more will evaporated there too..

You can also try to set the focuspoint halfway in the material.

    Hi ,
DXF format is better than others indeed. Have you tried to nest lasercut in CAD software and output directly ?
