Tool Changer For Porter Cable 3.25

I was reading a post a few months ago, and noticed someone talking about thier tool changer for a 3.25 HP Porter Cable router......

Id like to see and hear about differant things that would work and the collet assemblies etc.....I may try to put an auto changer on my machine but would like to see what my options are......

    Thanks

I would like to see that too. I have been thinking about it but can't wrap my head around a solution to the twist on collet issue.

Yes those are really cool, and I would say we would need to start with something like those, but the hard part is making the tool change automated, where to router whips over to a turntable and picks up a different tool after dropping off the current tool.

It would need to be come sort of pnumatic collet gripper thingy.

Jacobs (y'know, Jacobs chucks) makes a thing called the "Powercollet". It replaces the original collet on your router with a fairly large collet that locks by pushing on it (apparently with a good bit of force). The reviews I've read on them are good; the biggest downfall is its size. Grizzly.com is closing them out at $30.

The industrial ones require both compressed air and vacuum. Pull-up is done using a tapered tool holder which in turn has a collet to hold the tool. At the top of the tool holder is a pull-stud. You need to have a tapered tool holder to get the required surface area to transmit the power to the tooling as well as to reduce run-out.

Well, they do allow you to change the bit quickly, but they still don't give you a Z-axis datum which I thought was part of the question
