New VM10i Owner: Cheap touch probe options?

We just ordered a new VM1i today, and we are already trying to make it better. We have lots of hobby CNC experience, but this is our first "real" machine, previously all our production work has been outsourced. Since we are coming from the hobby world, we are used to DIYing everything and having a completely open platform that lets us do what we want.

We want tool probing but we could not quite rationalize the $4500-7900 that Hurco wanted (counting the interface kit). Does anyone know of any cheaper options? We made our own on our small mill, but for some reason I suspect that won't work as well on the Hurco.

Are there any cheaper options available that will work on these big machines, or should we bite the bullet and pay for the one from Hurco?

Suppose you could ask Hurco if you can buy only the software from them. And Touch Probe with interface directly from Renishaw. Might save a dime or two

You'll still need to add a slice I/O module to the Hurco. The software can be added at any time by sending in a code and entering the returned code. The integrator files will need changes also if you don't have a rotary table fitted.

What has Rotary table or not to do with adding a Touch (Tool) Probe ?

If you have a rotary axis, this will use the third I/O by default. If no rotary is present, the I/O needs to be shifted to the place where rotary was or you can spend out on an I/O module to fill the gap between standard rotary and probing.
