I just purchased a used hurco bmc 20 and I am having issues with connecting to floppy drive. I replaced the drive with a PLR Electronics Floppy to USB conversion. The drive seems to be connected properly but I still have a problem communicating to drive. Any suggestions?
I would like to first backup the existing programs and then start downloading nc programs to machine.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. The machine is late 80's early 90's. The serial number is BH8001048A BMC-20, if that helps.

That's likely to be a Max 2 control. In which case, it'll need a 720k DS DD floppy drive.

I removed the floppy drive because it was not working properly and replaced it with a PLR Electronics floppy to usb drive and I am still having the same problem.
old drive: NEC FD1037A part#134-500474-954-0. How can I test that the usb is working properly?

It may be you've got a problem with the floppy disk controller PCB. The drive needs to be a 720k drive. I don't think an emulator will replace it. Always format the disk in the machine drive and if the disks are 1.44mb, cover the hole - although it may still not work.

I looked up the floppy and it is a 720k, I also pulled the board out for inspection and it doesn't look good where the ribbon connects. I guess i need to have the board checked out and fixed. Thanks for the info.
