    Newbie needs help with 3D!

    Good evening gentlemen,

My name is Ryan and I'm a certified CNC newbie. Other than standing next to a CNC machine, I have absolutely no experience. With that being said, I'm hoping y'all can help me begin my journey. Recently, I saw a beautiful marble sculpture of a famous Ferrari which was sculpted using a 5-axis CNC machine. I've always been a car addict myself, and I couldn't help but be jealous of the sculpture. I thought to myself, why couldn't I make something similar, but with wood instead? After some researching on Google, it seems that my dream is possible, but now I need to connect the dots. First, I have access to a 5-axis CNC machine. Second, I've discovered the 3d model of the car that I would like to sculpt. You can find it here: Porsche 918 Spyder 2015 3D model - Humster3D. My question for you guys is: What steps do I need to take in order to have that 3d model put into the CNC machine and cut accordingly? Again, I am a complete amateur. The more thorough the answer the better! Also, please feel free to post 3D CNC guides, tutorials, articles or the like! Thank you in advanced.

First, who gives someone with no clue, access to a 5 axis machine?

What you need is some 5 axis CAM software that will accept your 3D model, and create toolpaths for it, and export g-code for the specific machine.
But honestly, I think this is way over your head. I've been programming and running routers for a living for over 15 years, and wouldn't know where to begin when it comes to a 5 axis machine.

first... since youre newby, then start where it is begin..

get know cadprograms, start with draftsight what is free but it is same high level than paid programs..

next go get some modeler program, start with sketchup or hexagon, silo3d.. so if you need a model for making real life project, then you can handle a model..
even you buy a model it is not one click to start to milling....

all other program on 3-4K and those beyond a lot what you need for machining an object..

next you have to study how cnc works.. look for cnctoolkit on the net.. check on the free F-engrave to seeing how g-code generated generally..

without experience jumping on a 5 axis machine, likely you try to using indy for drivingschool :-) I think you might encounter some difficulties..

by the way check google sketchup, google warehouse there are at least 10 Porsche spyder model.. you can make out of wood.. on a simple router..
I made some test on a 65 mustang..

    pinewood derby car 65 mustang

my opinion, if you want to make a larger detailed model, then you have a lot work to rebuilding -fixing the model, according to the requirement for cnc machining..
in this small size the triangles don't showing up so bad... but on a larger size they showing discrepencies..
rhino and visualmill has the capability for 5 axis.. they are the cheapest on the market.. you might can start with 5-10K
