    series or parallel

If you are using a 6 wire stepper and drop the two center taps is the motor wired in series or parallel? Now is it possible to gain more torque with less speed using a Gecko 210? I am trying to turn a 4th axis rotary fixture and when using the stepper with the micro drive I don't have a enough torque to turn the loaded fixture or hold it while machining. I did make the mistake of trying to drive without any reduction but am changing that now but I really don't hold out much hope that it will be enough. Any help will be appreciated.

Reduce it about 40:1. It will be enough.

    I wish it wouldn't crash.

Eric is correct. Use a lot of reduction for an application like that. What that does is trade in speed which you have way too much of for torque, which you don't have nearly enough of.

What you get is power, which is speed times torque.

Thanks to all. I have come to the conclusion that the belt reduction I was going to do is not going to be nearly enough so will have to get a gearhead reducer. BTW Mariss I cannot believe how much smoother and faster my machine is with the 201's and the mach2 controller. When do you expect the 2003 to be ready? I am thinking very seriously about using it on my next machine that I am gathering parts for right now.

    Mike,

Thanks for the kind words. The G2003 will be delayed 2 weeks (Jan 15) because my time has recently been spent dealing with recent non-technical issues. This distraction will be concluded this week and I will be able to focus my attention where it belongs.

The G2003 is in the final software wrap-up phase. A radically new step motor drive design has been moved up to the front burner as well. It moving to the front of the development process is in part due to these "non-technical issues". It will be nearly impossible to copy as well.

Mariss is the 2003 a kit and the consumer has to provide his own rabbit or will it be a plug and play? I am finding I am a lot more computer challegened than I thought. Cost???

I don't want to have to do any more than I have to on the electronics so plug and play would really sound good. Also will it work with dc brush servos?

ps I know about the copying stuff. I made the mistake of putting several products on the market because I didn't have the money for the patents nor did I think it would be a problem. Wrong. I have a new one I have delayed on revealing till I can at least get the provisional.
