    Milwaukee Router

I was wondering if anybody has the milwaukee 3.5 horsepower router. If you do have it what do you think? What is the body diameter? I was wondering if it would work in a porter cable router mount. Any help would be appreciated. The reasons I was thinking about getting this router are, 5yr warranty and more speed choices than the porter cable.

Well I found a dealer in town, it is 4.15" diameter body, and they said that they haven't had one return for repairs, and they are the only milwaukee repair center around, so that is good news.

From what I read somewhere the Milwaukee router was designed for industrial use. I found that out after I bought my porter cable 3.25hp, of course.

The body is slightly smaller than that of the PC 7518, probably 20-30 thousandths less in diameter.

In order to mount it in a PC mount, you need to disassemble the motor unit and remove the lead screw. Pretty easy if you know what you're doing, pretty hard if you don't.

As for the warranty, I don't think it's really going to matter. Warranty covers defects in materials and craftsmanship, not worn out brushes and bearings due to constant usage in a CNC machine.

Go with the MK 5625, you won't regret this choice and it's probably one of the best router motor before an entry level spindle.

It's not as "plug and play" as the PC 7518 cause you'll have to remove the height adjusting screw but that's nothing too complicate for any handy boy. Don't cut off this screw so you do not loose your warranty.

Yes, it'll fit the PC 7518 mount with some shim...

Sweet, thanks for all of the replies. I was definatly thinking about getting the mk 5625, I saw one at the dealer, and the bearings are quite large, and I think that it will work out great. That is a good point you bring up about the warranty.

Only down side compaired to the PC is I'm not sure you can get a 3/8" collet for the MK.. which is avaliable for the PC.. How ever I'd bet the MK is a better router then the PC over all. If I had to I'd give it a try in any case and when my PC dies I'll try it although the PC will probably outlive my life time so I'll probably never get one unless I just want it..hehe

in my opinion the PC is at a very uility work horse level. Anything above that from a nicer body or bearings could probably be inproved on it. Heck it could even "look" nicer.. But it is what it is a beat it to death router motor.

I'd bet the MK is both better balanced and probably is also quieter.
