    ATC keeps crashing

upgraded to PP once again and things seemed ok but it kept crashing the ATC, I'm not positive but I think that it's closing the collet before it grabs the tool. It's an intermittent problem, 4 crashes in 2 days, and I've only had 1 crashed before this in over 5 months. anyone else have this issue or know what I should look for? Figured I'd ask before I switch back to Mach again, already lost over 2 days so I can lose anymore time

    any help is greatly appreciated

    Re: ATC keeps crashing

Don't say it is so. I was told by Tormach technicians to switch to PP to help solve my chronic ATC crashing problems with Mach. I can't tell you how many lost days and SS I have in broken carbide tools with these crashes. I was hoping PP would save the day for me.
    Have you fixed your problem?
I have been getting use to PP before I attempt to try it in ATC mode.

Did you open the ATC molex plug above the ATC? Few of my pins weren't properly inserted which will cause intermittent connection, specially if the ATC function in and out... The worse part is that the RJ11 cable that came with my ATC were crossed.

Been rock-solid for me after the code got fixed in early-beta. I've run thousands of changes without trouble.

What kind of crash are you seeing? The Tormach PP controller or a different PC?

One more thing, the Mach with an ATC auto-g43's toolchanges while the PP version does not, so check your posts are outputting G43's on every tool change.

What does your block of code for a tool change look like? I kept having errors with my ATC until I changed around the order of commands. Typing:

    M06 G43 TXX HXX

Seemed to fix my problems. I also will always type 0X for numbers 1-9.

Ok, I said I would report back after I did the atc key-way retrofit and started using my atc with path pilot. I used my atc for the first time yesterday and it worked great. I ran it all day. I was nervous but pp seemed to actually run the machine faster.
I like how one can load tools with the tray forward and not have to do the tray in and out every time.
So far things are going great and I am glad to have the atc up and running smoothly. The crashes I was having sucked.

Do you have a link that describes the key way retrofit? I am considering this for my atc, but would like to know a bit more about what it entails.

    Thanks!

No link. It is easy. Get some m8 dog leg set screws.
Once your spindle is exposedeasure the slot the keyway needs to fit into. Mic. the m8 holes.achine down some keyway material. I started with 1/4"x3/8". I think the final part was .21"x.18"X1.1"
It should be a very snug fit but you should not need to hammer it in.
    Good luck
