    3040t maximum jog speed?

I'm thinking about buying a 3040T for it's mechanism, not to do actual routing. I would attach a payload instead of the milling motor and move that around in xyz.

My question: what's the maximum jog speed of the x and y axes with a payload that's about the same as the milling motor/spindle?

If it's a limitation of the steppers, would attaching a larger motor allow higher travel speeds or is it a limitation of the slides or bushings? I would be buying the kind with linear bearings.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

HI....hypothetically speaking......if you attach a faster motor to drive the screw, and as it isn't being resisted by a cutter against metal etc, the speed is probably limited to the ability of the screws, which are Acme threads in Delrin or brass bushes, to not seize up from the friction from lack of constant lubrication.........the screw itself will tend to flick any lube off the screw as it rotates faster than the designed speed.

I think the T after the 3040T title means it's fitted with trapezoidal screws. and brass nuts, but I could be wrong.

If the 3040 has ball screws then it would be a lot better ......comparable to a ball race versus a brass bush.

Ian, thanks for the reply. I think I'll go for the ball-screw version, worst case I'll replace the y (top) axis with a better version from Parker or similar, got lots of stuff in our surplus bin.
