    Which program?

Hi, I'm new here, but not a stranger to modeling. I also am a member on the 405th, a Halo Armor making forum. Recently, I was invited to a camp for general mold-making and vacuum forming objects. Naturally, one cannot achieve the amount of detail on the Halo 3 armor. So I turned to a Star Wars Clone Trooper for a side project exclusive for this camp. Despite the fact that this camp is in mid-summer, I concluded that getting a head start will be the most sufficient option. So the real question is, would Solidworks be an adequate program to model the armor pieces? (I am aware that you must transfer into a "Language" the mill will read) Or will 3DS Max be the best choice? I had taken one 3 hour class on Solidworks, and I excelled quite admirably it that small amount of time.

    Thanks in advance,
    Microbe

I think Solidworks would fit your needs. It has tools for model design, product design and machine design. I have been working on a robot design for school for about a week, and I have been able to render some very cool photo real things in Solidworks with their PhotoWorks feature. That said, you might Solidworks to be overkill. I looked at the site for Silo, and at $160, I would give that shot first before you go and drop $5K for entry level Solidworks (its $140 if you are a student, for a 2 yr license).

    Good luck in your endeavors.
