steam power for a small wood lathe

I have the idea of setting up a small wood lathe (about the size of a Jet mini lathe), on a lay shaft, for demonstrating at primitive craft shows. HELP!!!! I have no idea where to start. From what I see on EBay this might be really expensive. I have a model 72 Maytag to get started with this idea, but think blowing a steam whistle when I'm about to start turning will really be great. I'm not going to limit this to old power, a new boiler and modern engine would suit my needs. It will need to replace a 1/2 hp electric. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

check out Mike Brown's steam engines. I have purchased the plans, but not machined the steam engine yet.
