Question 660U shars vs 3600V-SD kurt vise

we are looking to get a new vise for our TMV_DVS sharp mill.
so far we are looking at 2 different vises. the first one we are looking at is the 3600V-SD Kurt vise the other one is the 660U from Shars.
my co worker really wants the Shars cuz it is cheaper but I am hesitant on it and worried that it will be a cheap chines knockoff.

so my questions are have any of you bought a Shars vise?
have you had any problems with it?
how flat is the ground surfaces to each other?
what is the quality of the Shars vise's?
what is the accuracy that you can easily hit?

    more about what we machine.
the material we cut is wood, plastic, steel, stainless and aluminum.
we do small delicate and intricate parts to hogging off huge amounts of material.
we also do a lot of drilling holes in plates and cutting slots for bolts
accuracy we machine to depending on the part can be 1/32 to other time we need 0.001" accuracy
we have one other Kurt vise on another mill and haven't had any issues with

Re: 660U shars vs 3600V-SD kurt vise

    Hi,
both are angle lock designs. It was Anglock that made Kurt vises justifiably famous. I guess the patent has expired and now every vise manufacturer has angle lock designs.
Kurt have the reputation.....but does that mean that a cheaper vise cannot compare?.

I faced that dilemma when I bought my vise. In the end I bought Vertex, a Taiwanese brand that has a good reputation and great cast iron at fair prices and is well represented in New Zealand.
Whatever faults or inaccuracies in my work are down to me....not the vise.

    Craig
