Cutting on uneven work surfaces. Work Surfaces with varying heights.

Hello! I am exploring the possibility of cutting parts out of corrugated sheet metal. The issue I am facing is the laser head will drag the material around when it begins cutting due to the grooves and ridges of the corrugated metal. Scouring the user manuals has not shed any light on how to fix this issue. Any help would be appreciated!

We are using an Amada Ensis 3015 with the AMNC 3i control.

    Hi,
take a look at Autoleveler, it is a freeware or at least cheapware program that probes the surface and records the Z height. Then using the Z height it recasts the Gcode with alteration of the Z axis
to follow the wave/bow/warp/corrugation of the material. It was designed for use on printed circuit boards but works in other situations as well.

Hi Fraz- sounds like you need an auto height control such as a plasma cutter uses. But I think it monitors the arc voltage to achieve this. Maybe an ultrasonic or inductive sensor set to measure ht will work. Peter
