    Lazycam 3D engraving

I was looking to do 3D stamps with a V-engraver bit. The smallest cylindrical router bit I had was a bit too wide for the detail work, this V-engraver is quite sharp at the tip.

I don't see how Lazycam understands the tool. For stamps, "vertical" features are already made with a drafting angle similar to what the engraver carvers. The problem is that the deeper the bit goes relative to the features around it, the more lateral clearance it needs to avoid destroying those features.

Basically the V-bit is like 30 deg total, cuts 1mm deep. If the nearby feature is at the surface it needs a 0.25mm clearance but if the feature is 0.5mm deep it needs 0.125mm clearance. Lazycam doesn't seem to have any concept of clearance and just sets tool height with pixel value. Consequently I wanted a 1mm wide, 1mm tall stamp feature with walls drafted so the feature's like 1.5mm wide at the bottom. But due to the lack of clearance I get it 1mm wide at the bottom and 0.5mm wide at the top. And a fixed clearance won't work well either, since shallower features need less clearance in a 3D stamp.

Can Lazycam do this at all? Is there some other package you'd recommend?

I doubt it. What are you working with, a bmp image? You might want to try MeshCAM, www.meshcam.com
