    ATHC

I'm looking to get a TM2 but am having a problem understanding if I get the Z height control so that I can use a router do I still have to spend $2400 for the ATHC?
I wonder if the Hypertherm Powermax 45 would be enough, I want to do signage so would probley cut mostly thin stock.
    Thanks,
    LorenA

The Z axis for routing is a completely separate unit then the Automatic torch height control. The Z axis is software controlled, as the AVHC system is completely independent from the software with it's own lifter station and motor.

Depending on what material thickness you plan to cut, and how much cutting you are planning on doing, would determine what plasma cutter you need.

I you are going to do a lot of torch cutting then I recomend the AVHC. You will save yourself a lot of time and you will get better quality cuts.

    Lorena,

The Powermax45 is a great machine for both hand and mechanized cutting...you can change from the hand to the machine torch in seconds with no tools. The 45 will pierce up to approx. 1/2" with ease...and can edge start and cut well over an inch. It also has low amp consumables that produce very nice cut quality on thin materials.

As far as Torch Height Control......it is necessary.....only if you want good cut quality and good consumable life. Pierce height and cut height need to be controlled accurately in order to get acceptable performance in a mechanized application with any plasma torch.

    Talking Thanks for your input

I caved and ordered the ACTH (ouch) I have the A60 Thermodynamic torch , the y axis card went out so am waiting for UPS to arrive with the replacement. I took a look at the slat holders and they have a bow in them due to warping when they were cut out by the Torchmate , it would be a real pain in trying to cut with them without a height control as they were bowed (verticle position not from side to side)at least 1/4". I'm building new slat holders from 1/4" angle with pins to seperate and hold the slats, they should lay even.
