    How to know coil group of the stepper motor?

    There is a quick way to identify which two or three/four coils are the same group:
    Let the lead wires of the stepper motor spread out, turn the shaft and taste the torque;
    Connect two wires to try out the torque again, if you find the torque is similar or same with the above step, the two wires are not the same group;
    Try out all two wires, and you will find the torque between the same group wires are large than the different group wires.

    Am I right? Every experts there.:withstupi

    yes, that is partially right...but the actual method of checking the coils is check with a multimeter...Turn your multimeter knob to ohms...test any 2 wires of stepper motor you should get a reading...try diffrent combination of wires with test leads till you get another reading which is half or double the previous..reading...and remmember if your stepper motor has 5 wires that means there are 2 coils and one common, but if its 6 wires then it 2 coils and 2 common...Anyways you were right though on your initial part...

    Cheers....

    HI!:wave: Everybody I am posting for the first time.
    I am a new-bee, I have salvaged some stepper motors from my old Epson printers, with six leads but only five wires are connected. I would like to know the specification of the motor. The label on the motor reads AST P/N 17005-P3V, manufacturer is MINEBEA CO. also I would like to know if there is any driver board that can run the motor.
    I have attached pictures of other motors that I have with 4 wire.
    Thank you !

    uirobot, please how is the torque tasted after turning the shaft? thanks.
