Hi all,
i built a X-Y table using two microstep cnc driver , and use Mach2, it work fine, but now i need to control a power supply using the Z axis signal ,this PS can be controled sending 0 - 5v dc. someone knows some circuit to do it?
I thought to use another driver and use the Z axis signal for this. but the driver send pulses to the motor and I do not know how these pulses could control a current of 0 to 5v.
Someone have some idea how can I do that? maybe i dont need the Z axis driver to do it , maybe anothe simple circuit?

I made a small control like that very simple. I hooked a small stepper motor up to a potentiometer with a piece of vinyl tubing as the coupling. The vinyl tubing will slip if the motor tries to go too far so it doesn't break the potentiometer. My motor speed control uses 0 - 10 V and I used a 1000 ohm potentiometer. 1000 ohm should work fine for you also. Just put ground (-) to one end of the potentiometer and +5V to the other end. Connect the middle (wiper) to your speed control input.

I used it to run a turntable to spin the workpiece while the router cut a profile with the X and Z .

Fiz um pequeno controle que gosta muito simples. Liguei uma pequena Stepper motor até um potenciómetro com um pedaço de vinil como tubulação de engate. O tubo de vinil vai escorregar, se o motor tenta ir longe demais para não quebrar o potenciómetro. Meu motor velocidade controle usa 0 - 10 V, e eu usei uma ohm 1000 potenciómetro. 1000 ohm deve funcionar bem para você também. Basta colocar terra (-) para um fim do potenciómetro e +5 V para o outro extremo. Ligue a média (limpador) para controlar a velocidade de entrada.

Usei-o para executar um gira-discos para girar a peça, enquanto o roteador cortar um perfil com o X e Z.

lol Steve, i had same idea, ( i just posted it in laser forum ) , this must work, it is to control a laser power , cutting / engraving machine. i ll try it.
