    Question Help with motors\drivers

I have nearly completed construction of a machine very simular to the shopbot. I called for prices on the alpha stepping motors\ drivers from Oriental Motors .......almost $1200.00\axis. Yikes! I'm not sure I want to make that kind of investment at this point for hobby use.
The gantry weighs about 75 lbs. minus the router, any suggestions on an alternate motor\driver combination?
    thanks, John

Gecko 201's http://www.geckodrive.com and maybe these http://www.orientalmotor.co.jp/cgi-b...K&frameSize=85 or these http://www.orientalmotor.co.jp/cgi-b...K&frameSize=85

You'll also need a power supply. You won't have the closed loop, but, if you setup your software properly, and have properly sized motors, you shouldn't have a problem.

The old style shopbots didn't have closed loop, and I believe had somewhere around 400 oz-in motors. When they changed to the alphastep drives, the prices went up about $2K.
