    LS120's Solsylva 24 x 48 build.

Hi all i have been a member for a few years and at first i built my initial cnc table. it was a Build your own tools cnc table and true to build components..

it was a learning curve and i got it working quite well but not perfect. anyway one thing ran into another and i had to shelf it for a while.

about 9 months ago i purchased the 5 set plans of Steve's Solsylva cnc tables and decided to make the 24 x 48 table this time.

it has taken me some time as i live in NZ (New Zealand) and to buy any thing in precision cost an arm and leg or if you say lead screw/back lash nuts, the prices goes thru the roof.

the other thing is postage from around the world is not cheap either down to NZ, even from AU (Australia).

so have been saving and have ordered a CNC Kit - 300W Air cool Spindle, speed controller, psu, Mount Bracket, ER11

    for $129.00 USD incl DHL.

I have been doing what i can while saving up, i have cut the table and legs, made the X rails, (2 x 6 pine sorry guys). i own a small computer shop and also do E-waste as come across some good stuff.

i got my first 4 Nema 23 motors from some Brother HL10 lazer printers and were what i used on the first build, along with a 3 - axis china controller that i have never had a problem with.

i'n building a 18a 24volt Psu from 2 x 500w ATX psu it also gives me 12v+ 12v- 5v+ 5v- 3.3v etc.... so is a plus - plus as i see it. and has cost nothing but my time. and very easy to do you can go as high as you like, 12v,24v,36v,48v,60v but limited to the max AMP of the lowest PSU in the chain.

i have also been thinking in a different Z as i have some slider rails from Copiers and Dell 21" LCD's.. so more on that later. any way i will put up some pic's soon and please give me some helpful advise if you can.

    Thanks
    David

and these are the X Legs and rails. they are not together as i have been painting then (color = apple green ), and 2 left to paint. the long dowel was what i used to push the nuts inside the rails to line up with the holes for the studs wasn't very hard to do.

OK a few month's back i scored some 1" thick good quality ply so got a friend to cut me 2 y cross members and i have laminated the two to make it 2" thick. just going to have to fudge the plans a little.

anyway here are the 2 pieces before and after when i glues and screwed (temp screwed until dry).

I must say also the 2 x 6 were for free from my brother the pulled down a wall at his work and he scored it for fire wood. (i borrowed some)

    Thanks for the comment Paulzox,

If anyone is wondering what the black things are they are the old TV screen 45% screen mounts (that the tube mounts on) from inside the tv case's i saw them and said to my self... hmmmm they could come in handy as table inside corner braces ..

so just got a price for an order for the last parts i need..
    12 * XL 15T gear (will take 10mm wide belt) = $ 73
    1 * 12mm x 700mm $ 42
    1 * 10mm x 300mm $ 52
    2 * 12mm x 1300mm 82 + 82 = $ 164
    4 * 390 XL (195 teeth) (10mm wide) $ 13
    4 * 110 XL (55 teeth) (10mm wide} $ 12

So the final price is $ 355.00 US incl P&P to NZ

so i was a little cheeky and asked is that there best price (group)

oh man... just did a re look at my x & y sizes and im off... so have asked for a price adjustment.. (chair)

    x = 1550mm not 1300mm
    y = 865mm not 700mm

as my granddad always said measure twice cut once..(wrong)

Smart move going to a thicker Y beam and laminate construction. Seems to be the biggest weakness in my 12X48. My Y beam is laminated and reinforced with steel and still has some twist to it under load.

    Re: LS120's Solsylva 24 x 48 build.

well been looking at 3D printers for awhile now and thought why not on a cnc... 75% is there with the cnc and so i managed to dig up this info if anyone is interested.
    Mach3 3D printer Add-on
I am very happy to announce that I have written an Add-on for mach3 which will allow you to use mach3 as a 3D printer Software. You will use mach3 software both for slicng the STL file and printing directly.
Please watch video in full screen…

    https://cnc2printer3d.wordpress.com/software/

    Installation Notes:
    – Please download the setup1.3.exe and install (may request administrator privilege. The user name and password is your own administrator user name and password)
    – It includes Slic3r inside (Slic3r - G-code generator for 3D printers).
    – It requires a Windows machine running .net Framework. You can download the .net Framework yourself here).
    – You can change Slic3r settings by editing “gnexlab_config.ini” Which is inside Slic3r directory. You can also open it with Slic3r.exe in order to modify it. Do not forget to save it on the “gnexlab_config.ini” file.
Tested on winXP and Win7 systems.

    also;
Convert a CNC Router to a 3D Printer

i like the idea of Limitless..

received my box of bits for the Z Axis, 300w spindle with ER11, ali spindle mount, speed control (mach-3 compatible) and psu. now just waiting on the screws and belt's etc..

Also just a Question to those whom may know...

why was the table made from 2x6 ?? is there any thing against using 2x4 and putting in extra braces?? or laminating it to 4x4's ??

    just a question ?

2X4's are more likely to sag over time. You won't gain much by going to 4X4. Even 2X6 will sag over time that's why I did a torsion box bed for mine.

2X6 outer frame, particle board grids, particle board facing on top and bottom all glued with construction adhesive and brad nailed. It's heavy, stable and flat. Just the box weighs 300+ lbs.

    Re: LS120's Solsylva 24 x 48 build.

ok so decided to make my table a torsion box that will be 140mm (5 1/2" ) x 18mm (.3/4") with 15-18mm top and bottom. not 100% sure at the mo but looking at an idea or a multi stage vacuum table..

individual section can be turned on or off. looking at about 12" square's.

also been thinking about the timber for rails and legs.. and can get some 300mm x 38mm x 2040mm ply for $10 nz or upto 3060mm for a little more ( off cuts ) what do you think??

also DEV did you cover all your rails with the ali angle both sides??

the X rails i was thinking of some plate on top and would you add extra supports for the rail's ??
