Looking for a professional to talk to in Tri-Cities

    Hello,
I'm looking for a professional machinist to talk to in the Tri-Cities (Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, or Guelph).

I am working on a project, and need a professional to talk to about materials, techniques, design and prices. If everything goes well then I was planning to CNC machine small orders of 200-400 parts every half a year, ideally. So I'm pretty much looking for a small company who will be interested in small orders and has the equipment to work with aluminum or hardwood.

    what does out-source hardwood mean?

I'm really new to all of this. It's just a project I'm working on and I need a prototype, but the product itself will be manufactured using the cnc-machining even after the prototype is done. I'm not even sure yet if it will be wood or aluminum.

I don't cut wood in my metalworking machines and I don't have a wood shop.
So I go through my client database and call a shop that does wood working and have them do it for me. I then sell the items to you.
No matter how much equipment a shop has there is ALWAYS parts of some jobs that require the help of others.

    Thanks for the reply.

I'm working on the design right now and I have no experience in computer aided design at all, but I'm trying. I'm using google's SketchUp to draw the prototype out with the needed dimensions.

Then I will need a quote.

I'm pretty much doing the casing for electronics and I need it not more than 1mm thick. Preferably thinner, but the device has to be very sturdy and long lasting.

    Aluminum - hardwood - sturdy - <1mm

That combination will not work (unless your definition of sturdy is, well, different than I am used to).
You are talking about using 20 gauge material. Better figure on steel or stainless or change the thickness drastically.

I'm a local hobby / small business CNC guy. If you're still looking for parts out of wood fell free to pm me... Although I can cut Aluminum, I prefer not to. I have a cutting area of 49" x 49".

    Happy Holiday's
