1st time poster here, I just discovered this site and I love it!
This can be a real vague question here BUT I have the opprotunity to buy a very low hour 1995 Hawk 5 mill. The story on the mill is that it worked fine then quit, they thought maybe lightning...but no other machines are hurt...Anyways they sent the boards to Hurco and everything checked out OK, reinstalled them and still nothing. A couple of non-CNC repair men looked at it and the boards are getting power (I am not sure if they checked the voltage of it) but it goes nowhere from there. This can be a BIG can of worms I know but I can't stand the thought of it getting away and not able to declare it dead by myself. I do have some very savoy buddies in my corner - and I hope some input from here too!- if I buy it. This machine looks brand new but I hope all the smoke is still in the wires.
A little background on me is that I am a 19yr vet of toolmaking and programming. The shop that I am in has 12 Haas, 1 Makino, 1 RoboDrill, 3 wires, 3 sinkers, AND 1 BIG OLD HURCO (not the one for sale)! I program with Mastercam X4 and we are 100% Tools and no production.
This Hawk 5 is for my home shop - cant stay at work all night! ANY input is very much appreciated!!!
