fanuc 20-t monitor fail & symptoms

my nardini lathe fanuc 20-t mono green monitor started having a patch in the low lh area that was being illuminated by the crt gun looked like a cloud, fuzzy, soft edged, didnt obscure text, nums et al. over a week or so progressed to flashes and trails & "sparks". looked like a roman candle was brodcasting in the same area. grew bigger, but would sometimes pop back to a clean legible display. then the display would jitter, and have hot horizontal flashing lines across. it finally went out altogether, now that it has, the machine wont come on line, briefly brings up the good "0"'s on the amps then trips out with slashes, no code. dont want to blow a grand on a replacement lcd monitor without hearing some opinions from you folk who are electronically sharper than i, which would be most of you. thanks!
