I do not see any means of locking the rotary table once it is set, you might ask about that if you decide to purchase.

    Ken,

That brass colored knob is the table lock. Heres Grizzly's version:

i would be imediately turning this into a stepper driven axis. SO i dont think it needs a stop. I am mostly concerned about Slop and backlash. can backlash on a rotary axis be compensated for in software?

In Mach2 there is backlash compensation for axes...and i'm guessing that any controller software of worth has it also. I haven't looked deeply into any others as I have my hands full with Mach2.

This backlash compensation issue, how can software recognize backlash with out a direct mechanical consideration to recognize that the motor has moved and the table (or what ever) has not?

My CNC mill has software compensation built in also, but I am unable to mentally understand how it recognizes this backlash.

In TurboCnc it tells the motor to take so many steps (the value you have put in) everytime the motor changes direction. It assumes that this takes up the backlash before actually moving the fixture.
You have to measure the it while you are setting up the software.
