Hello,
I'm new here, alot of great info.

I'm interested in retrofitting a Homier mini mill with my stepper motors. My current system is an older version of this;

This control uses L297 and L298 IC's to drive my steppers in bipolar mode, half step. It is 2 amp/phase max, running with a 12V 10 amp PS. Can I use a higher voltage PS to get more out of the motors, or do I need a control with more amps/phase?

Motors are Pacific Scientific Powermax II 4x 195oz/in and using Mach2 for software control (25,000khz pulse rate). I'm currently getting around 10 IPM max(half step mode), NO LOAD on the motors. They are just sitting on the bench at the moment. I know a servo based system is superior, but I would like to get everything I can get out of my existing kit for right now.

Would going with G201's and/or a larger PS give me more speed AND torque or just more torque at the same max speed for my existing motors? I would love to get 20 - 30 IPM out of these guys.

Thanks for any help.
