    Lightbulb Magnesium chips

Can anyone help me? Magnesium chips/turnings in our shop are building up! What do i do with the chips? Can i sell them? Recycle them? Are there any laws about giving them away? I saw some for sale on ebay and didnt know if that was a legal option. Does anyone have an answer for us? ll the scrap metal places we contacted don't deal with magnesium. Some one must know. Thank you:wave:

    Mag chips

hi'ya stephaniet, you could try arranging with your stock\casting supplier to take them if they are set up for the process for re-cycling, or contact a smaller bespoke foundary (they make specialty one-off castings) :rainfro::rainfro::rainfro: kman

Just watch that they don't get near a fire. Where I served apprenticeship they stored them in 55 gallon steel drums with clamp on lids. Magnesium fires are not easy to put out.

I would like to get some off of you if you want to sell about 20 lbs of it? I'm looking for smallchips/ shavings. The smaller, the better. If not, I'd b e willing to pay for the shipping and handeling of 20 lbs.

You might want to check how they can be shipped. Fire hazard and all that. We used to make explosives with powdered magnesium.LOL
