what are the wires at top of Z axis

I had to lift my mill outside then palet jack it into garage. Word of caution not much clearance for a standard height garage door on a stand!

I hit the top wires pretty good on my turnkey cnc.

    Those must be for encoder?

I guess I should rephrase this into more of a question.

I think I damaged the wires up top , what are they for and what's under the cap with the 8 small Allen screws?

That's probably the encoder wires. Sure wouldn't want them damaged. They are the highest thing on the Z bracket, right above the end of the ball screw or just below the little useless plastic knob if yours has that. The connector to the encoder is only a few inches from where it sounds like they got hit, so that may mean a new cable is in order.
