    Morse versus Jacobs

Whats the difference between a Morse Taper and a Jacobs Taper? Which one is better for drilling operations and some mild milling operations?

Both of these tapers are a series. Morse 0 to 6. Don't remember the numbers on Jacobs.

Morse tapers have more change in diameter per inch. They are designed to push together by hand and not let the tool drop. Then a small drift can separate them when needed.

Jacobs tapers are used where constant removal is not needed. Like for drill chucks. It can be a serious job to separate two parts held with a Jacobs taper.

Machinery Handbook has the specs. on these tapers.
