    Sieg SX3/SX3L sprindle control

I have a SX3L on the way... In the future I will be building a ATC, so I'm going to need spindle control. The more I read in the forum about spindle control on the SX3, the more confusion I have.
Are there any working solutions? I don't want to get into a complete spindle replacement and VFD if I can avoid it. I was hoping to keep the cost down and use a g540.
I simply need start, stop, cw, ccw and some speed control.

    Thanks

To date, I am aware of these possible solutions for the SX3:

    1) Substitute the motor/driver with a set from the SYIL SX4
    2) Substitute the motor/driver with the Brushless Spindle Set from KelingInc.
    3) Substitute the motor/driver with a DC Motor/Speed Control
    4) Substitute the driver electronics with a custom driver board (Quasar)

There are threads here and in the Syil forum for each of these alternatives, and none seem to be ideal. I have yet to hear anyone who says they are completely happy with their solution. As an owner of an SX3 who is totally satisfied with the machine with the exception of the CNC spindle control, I sure wish a good solution would surface.

Thanks for the summary... I may change my order to a X3L, giving up the extra Y axis would limit me. But I really don't want to spend an additional $500 to replace a brand new spindle motor and drive.

I should ask, if you know off hand. What are the options for controlling the X3 spindle with a g540? On, off and speed or is reverse available as well?

Did Quasar actually end up finishing his? He had been real quiet about it lately. I'm very tempted to try and program a drop in Pic or Atmel for the daughter card that uses all the other electronics. There just isn't enough time in the day for me right now.

Oh, I forgot to mention, when I talked with Syil last week about the X4 electronics and motor they mentioned it was the same setup as KelingInc has. They now use the Chinese Harley motor and controller.

    >>it is sangmutan made, and syil brand.they oem for us.

While we are talking about the X4, I was looking at some and I really liked there forward mounted Z Lead screw, but when I looked at Syils X4, it looks more like the X3/SX3 than the X4. Theirs still appears to have the solid face column and the lead screw inside the back. They sure do not look the same as Siegs X4 machines.
