    Problem:lack of power in subspindle

Is there any way to get more power to subspindle, motor upgrade ?
We need only 1500rpm but more torque. There is 2 gears which can be changed by M code, but i think that is done somehow electrically. So swapping gears is not possible.
    Could motor be tuned ?
Has anyone installed other motor ?

The sub spindle motor is dual wound and the "gear changes" are accomplished by changing which windings you are using by M code. You will get more torque on the low end by using low "gear", but will have an RPM limitation. The advantages by using this method are changing ranges on the fly, low maintenance and less vibration. Downside - you have discovered it: much lower torque on the low end.

No motor changeout possible that I know of.

What are your cutting conditions? Are you already running in low range?

    Best regards,

    more torque

The secret is not in the motor?
The secret is in the MIV drive units. The gains can be adjusted to gain or loose torque. If these changes are made you will end up sacraficing something else. It can be done by Okuma with special software and a act of Congress.

There is an option called extreme low speed cut function (something like that) that can help increase your torque on the sub spindle. Just thought I would mention it. I worked on a Macturn 550 and after we installed this option it helped with the low speed torque.
