Anyone get SC10 to work with 4th axis?

    I have a tormach 1100 w/ tilting rotary table.
I am just starting to convert some of my SC8 4thaxis projects to SC10 and I have not had success.
I am aware that I cannot open SC8 files with SC10 because it doesn't seem to recognize the machine definitions properly so I have decided to 'manually' re-create my projects (major PITA).
Anyway, I stared out with simple hole machining part and set it up the same way as SC8 but the tool won't retract properly. Sprutcam America has been great but hasn't figured out why just yet.
Anyone else have this problem? If so, how did you fix/work around it?
Does anyone have any suggestions on converting 4th axis files from 8 to 10?
    Thanks
    Nathan

Re: Anyone get SC10 to work with 4th axis?

No experience with sc8 to 10 when it comes to 4th axis setups so no help there. I do have some experience with sc 10 and 4th axis setups and operations. Think I need more info to help much.

From my experience the hole machining / 4th axis operations work well and require very little fiddling around to to get working. My only guesses at this time would be 2 things. I set safe plane as a cylinder around the part "very cool visual" this is done in the lower left list window under link and leads tab / safe motions

The second guess is the way the holes show the arrow for the plunge path. Selecting holes on bottom or sides of part will need to be edited using job assignment. First select the hole that has goofy arrow from list. Then click properties. Then click inverse normal. I then close that dialog and then reopen it and the path arrow is correct. Next I edit values for hole depth , note some reverse thinking with numbers might be needed. then close dialog, save , reset and run to check all operations.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Mountaindew,

Thank you for the detailed reply. The safe plane setup cured the issue I was having. I appreciate it.
I never knew/used that in SC8 and somehow my parts simulated and machined OK.
I didn't know about the Inverse normal button either. I have always double-clicked on the tip of the job assignment 'arrow' to reverse the direction of arrow. It looks like either way works. Good to know.

    Thanks, again.
