    TM1 alarm 165x

I just started getting this alarm 165x in my Haas toolroom mill. "X ZERO RETURN MARGIN TOO SMALL". Is there any easy fix for this? I appreciate any help or suggestions.

Check for chips on or near the limit switch. That will shorten the distance of travel after tripping the switch and cause that error. That is the usual cause.

    Good luck---Mike

Yes check for chips on either the sensor or on the little plate that it passes by. If you still get the error when everything is clean it is possible a build up of chips has moved the little plate.
An open mind is a virtue...so long as all the common sense has not leaked out.

I will try and look at it this week. I am guessing removing the metal guards on front and back of table will expose the limit switches?

If you are still having a problem you can play with parameter 125. You can adjusted it up by 1000 and try zeroing out the axis again

    It's working now

After checking for chips around sensor, I didn't see anything much. I did clean it up and tried it. Still getting error. Now, I decided to try adjusting parameter 125. I started by adding 1000 to current setting of 7450. Still not working. I decided to try one more thing and subtract 1000 from the current setting. I worked. I don't know if this will hurt anything or not, but I do know it is working. Thanks so much for all the help.

The parameter that you adjusted is known as the grid offset. This is the amount that the motor backs off of the limit switch when homing.

Adjusting the parameter is normally how the grid offset is set, but my concern is why you needed to change the parameter in the first place. Unless you were recently working on the X-Axis, parameters don't just change on their own.

You may have an underlying problem which could be that something is loose with the motor, coupling, and/or ballscrew. It could also be that the swich brackets got moved.

    Good luck!

I will check further into this. If my bracket has moved, would you recommend moving the bracket or adjusting the parameter setting.
