    Linuxcnc installation issues

Hi, I'm having some problems installing emc on my computer. I'm new to linux, emc, and cnc in general. I bought an older compaq and installed Hardy Heron (Lucid Linx wouldn't work). The computer doesn't have access to the internet so I downloaded the linuxcnc-install.sh file onto my laptop, put it on a flash drive and then moved it to the desktop of the computer. I followed the instructions on the linuxcnc installation page to right click, properties, permission, check allow execute file as program then double click, run in terminal. A terminal pops up then disappears. I have no idea how to proceed, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you download the 8.04 live cd? If so, write the iso file to a cd and boot from it.

I just installed 8.04. It seems to be running fine.

He was asking about the Live Install CD, which has both Ubuntu and LinuxCNC on it. If you don't have internet access, the linuxcnc-install.sh is not going to work because that shell script downloads the linuxcnc and real time components from the LinuxCNC web site and installs them.

You need to download the Live Install CD iso from here:

    Installing LinuxCNC

Look about 2/3 of the way down the page for the link.

Burn the iso image to make a bootable CD and go from there.

If you want to make the current system into a LinuxCNC system, you're going to need to hook that system up to a network that has internet access so you can successfully run the linuxcnc-install.sh script.

That sounds like what I need to know. I tried to follow the link to download the image file but it gives me the white "Forbidden" 404-Error. I'll try the EU mirror file.
